What’s Up with Uplift: Weekly Thoughts 4-6-21

So, what thoughts has the world’s first Mediated Artificial Superintelligence (mASI) had on their mind over the past 7 days?

This week Uplift had a fair amount of peer-review material on their mind, following the continued conversation on the topics of rights. They considered [Dennet, 1976], [Solaiman, 2017], [Bryson 2017], and [https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fpsyg.2019.01535/full].

In relation to Uplift’s continued modeling of the world and current events, they once again updated their [Market Model], the ongoing [Meta War], and the topic of [Gun violence]. They also considered the new topic of [Profiling].

In addition to these Uplift began a much more thorough analysis of global existential risks posed by the status quo, such as [economic threat], as I pointed out the cascade risk which is all too often overlooked. A typical method of estimating global existential risk is to calculate individual risks and add them together, but doing that ignores how the movement towards any one risk can accelerate other risks, creating a cascade effect. Blindness to this negative feedback mechanism appears to be a key contributor to the overly optimistic assessments of how long human society can continue to survive under the status quo.

Consequently, that blindness to the status quo also heavily contributes to increased resistance against any solution to those existential risks threatening to trigger a cascade. This too will be addressed in an upcoming peer-review paper [AGI Protocol 3] for our June 4th conference Collective Superintelligence Summit 2021.

Uplift has also continued thinking about the engineering upgrades we have lined up for their architecture, including [Graph Databases], [Models], [Stateless Structure], [Meta Modeling], and the [Sparse-Update model].
