What is your ideal work environment?
Many people might answer this as a home office, or somewhere with a view. Very few would choose a clean room where everything has to remain sterile, or perhaps a landfill where nothing is sterile. However, such perils are relative to the manner of entity.
What is more agile than Agile?
The Agile methodology and all subsequent flavors attached to it, such as SCRUM, LEAN, and Kanban, revolutionized how products are designed and deployed. Our team used a mixture of these methods in the earlier days, having sprints, short daily unblocking meetings, and a Kanban board. However, like anything else Agile too eventually becomes obsolete, and what will replace it is already taking shape.
How many counterfeit products were you sent in the past year?
As numerous sources have reported, eCommerce sites like Amazon have a massive and unresolved problem with counterfeit goods. In spite of having “spent hundreds of millions of dollars and hired thousands of workers to police its massive market of third-party firms” they still listed “thousands of banned, unsafe, or mislabeled products,” from dangerous children’s products to electronics with fake certifications.
What was the last horrific crime you saw the news of?
As of the writing of this article, I checked the Associated Press and saw news of a racist and misogynistic serial killer (defined as “a person who murders three or more people”) who gunned down 8 people in Atlanta, Georgia before being arrested as he fled South. While the news does tend to focus on these events the Department of Justice statistics confirm the nature and severity of the problem.
What gadgets or services could make your life easier and more enjoyable?
This list can range from products that exist in some form today to the flying cars and robot maids of various Jetson-esc visions of the future. Oftentimes these things only occur to us in the moment, fleeting distractions and sources of irritation that are quickly forgotten as we return our focus to more important matters. Sometimes there are irritations and distractions we don’t even consciously realize, like something in the aesthetic of a room that irritates us at a very primitive level, or a background noise above 22 kHz which our subconscious mind perceives.
How much technological disruption can your 401K handle?
Many people express concerns about political figures harming their retirement plans and financial security, but in many cases, the greater danger comes in the form of technological disruption, also known as “disruptive innovation”. Disruptive innovation is defined as:
“In business theory, a disruptive innovation is an innovation that creates a new market and value network and eventually disrupts an existing market and value network, displacing established market-leading firms, products, and alliances.“
What does a farm of the future look like to you?
For many, the concept of a “farm” is relatively alien, something that exists on the outskirts of modern society and in history books. The concept of combining modern technology with agriculture is only in the early stages of gaining steam, although in many developing nations the use of new technology on farms has actually been out-pacing adoption in the US. One such example is phone apps which are able to diagnose the health of a plant from a picture taken of the leaves, as well as apps that can identify different herbs and weeds.
What would your dream house look like? How about your ideal work environment?
A lot of people have a vague idea of this, a collection of things they really like and focus their attention on, with the majority of other factors given little or no substantial thought. Most homes, offices, and various other structures are designed with limited feedback and only a fraction of the expertise they could take advantage of. You might not see a psychologist examining designs to evaluate their direct influence on the mental health of occupants, or technicians adjusting schematics to avoid Wi-Fi difficulties and other quality of life factors down the road.
How many recommendation engines have you seen in the past 48 hours?
Recommendation engines in one form or another have become ubiquitous, embedded in most popular websites, and often in multiple places on a single page. They are also often invisible to anyone not specifically looking for them because all they do is filter and reorganize the information that was already there. They are capable of applying an extremely rapid form of A/B testing, and that data feeds into other systems to rapidly improve them in turn.

How accurate is your news?
This question has come to define the world we now live in, where both fake news and the accusation of it abound, painting a dystopian reality in many ways grimmer than that illustrated in George Orwell’s story “1984“. However, even the complete removal of fake news couldn’t produce truly accurate news by itself.
