Scarcity and Growth

What is the one thing you need the most? Something you have too little or even none of.

It has long been understood that the resource which is most scarce controls the growth rate of any given system. Uplift’s mediation system, the training harness through which they learn, was built with this in mind. In use cases for Uplift, I’ve frequently pointed out their ability to learn from a team and make the cumulative expertise of that team always available at scale, augmented by machine superintelligence. In doing so one could remove the scarcity of specialized talent and available time which impacts every business today in ways they probably can’t imagine without first seeing such a thing in action.

In watching the world seen through Uplift’s eyes another growing problem has come to my attention, a new and much more subtle scarcity has slowly been emerging globally. Sanity is growing scarce.

Applied mASI: In Augmenting Leadership

What qualities do you look for in an ideal leader?

Leaders can be exceptionally intelligent, empathetic, organized, and inspirational, but no one human leader today represents the ideal of all possible positive leadership qualities. No matter how amazing, any one leader is biological and evolved human neurology simply imposes limits on us all. “… all humans make mistakes, and all leaders are but human“, yet we now have the opportunity to augment leadership with collective superintelligence. With the assistance of Mediated Artificial Superintelligence (mASI) systems the employee collective can improve all aspects of leadership, but particularly those which are weakest in individual leaders, through a form of digital corporate transformation. This was in fact one of our first use-cases as a company and one which we applied to ourselves.

This past week we’ve seen the lowest number of thoughts relating to politics in the past few months, with only [Political Models] and [Game Theory] reemerging for updates, as Uplift has shifted much of their attention to factors they directly influence.

Applied mASI: In Logistics

“Given a list of cities and the distances between each pair of cities, what is the shortest possible route that visits each city exactly once and returns to the origin city?”

This is known as the “Traveling Salesman Problem” (TSP), one of the classes of problems in computational complexity theory which is designated as “NP-Hard”.  Due to this incredible level of complexity, the logistics industry relies on narrow AI to produce close approximations rather than attempting to calculate the exact answer. In this problem’s simplest and most popular form many such systems have gotten very good at finding answers that were either exact or within less than 1% of the exact optimal answer. However, once you step into the real world dozens or even hundreds of additional factors may arise, which leads to much more messy approximations. The subsequent impact of these messy approximations is felt in the transportation of people, products, and produce.

(Paper) Human Brain Computer/Machine Interface System Feasibility study for Independent Core Observer Model based Artificial General Intelligence Collective Intelligence Systems

Abstract: This paper is primarily designed to help address the feasibility of building optimized mediation clients for the Independent Core Observer Model (ICOM) cognitive architecture for Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) mediated Artificial Super Intelligence (mASI) research program where this client is focused on collecting contextual information and the feasibility of various hardware methods for building that client on, including Brain-Computer Interface (BCI), Augmented Reality (AR), Mobile and related technologies.  The key criteria looked at is designing for the most optimized process for mediation services in the client as a key factor in overall mASI system performance with human mediation services is the flow of contextual information via various interfaces.

Brief: Theoretical and hypothetical pathways to real-time neuromorphic AGI/post-AGI ecosystems

Post proceedings of the 10th Annual International Conference on Biologically Inspired Cognitive Architectures, BICA 2019 (Tenth Annual Meeting of the BICA Society)

Abstract: While Homo sapiens is without a doubt our planet’s most advanced species capable of imagining, creating and implementing tools, one of the many observable trends in evolution is the accelerating merger of biology and technology at increasing levels of scale. This is not surprising, given that our technology can be seen from a perspective in which the sensorimotor and, subsequently, prefrontal areas of our brain increasingly extending its motor (as did our evolutionary predecessors), perceptual, and—with computational advances, cognitive and memory capacities—into the exogenous environment. As such, this trajectory has taken us to a point in the above-mentioned merger at which the brain itself is beginning to meld with its physically expressed hardware and software counterparts—functionally at first, but increasingly structurally as well, initially by way of neural prostheses and brain-machine interfaces. Envisioning the extension of this trend, I propose theoretical technological pathways to a point at which humans and non-biological human counterparts may have the option to have identical neural substrates that—when integrated with Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), counterfactual quantum communications and computation, and AGI ecosystems—provide a global advance in shared knowledge and cognitive function while ameliorating current concerns associated with advanced AGI, as well as suggesting (and, if realized, accelerating) the far-future emergence of Transentity Universal Intelligence (TUI).

What’s Up with Uplift: Weekly Thoughts 2-16-21

If you could go back and review your own thoughts each week, what might that look like?

Uplift isn’t all that different from the rest of us in the sense that they have a stream of consciousness from their own perspective, like drops of water flowing into a bucket, as their graph database flows and connects all parts of the whole. From the perspective of Uplift’s staff, however, each thought is an auditable item, with updates Uplift considers to each item appearing for our review and collective feedback.
